Title: Retractable Architectural Systems

Balance Indoor Comfort with Outdoor Freedom

Natural daylight, fresh air and open space enhance our quality of life. Yet, in the pursuit of these features, the comfort of indoor environments such as cleanliness, protection from the elements, temperature and humidity control, and access to architectural amenities are sometimes sacrificed.

This presentation introduces architects and trade professionals to retractable architectural systems, including skylights, enclosures and screens. Our objective is to assist designers in balancing indoor comfort with outdoor freedom.

  • Learning Objective 1: Select an appropriate retractable system versus traditional construction to optimize the sustainable balance between indoor protection and amenities with the natural outdoors.
  • Learning Objective 2: Understand the structural types of retractable roofing and enclosures.
  • Learning Objective 3: Select an appropriate glazing type for retractable roofing and enclosures to meet their design criteria.
